Mid-century lamps
The love for mid-century modern lamps is here to stay. You might be a purist, with a living room decked out with furniture by such icons as George Nelson, Charles and Ray Eames, or Harry Bertoia. Or you might simply like the stylish yet functional accent here and there, that a well-placed
floor lamp,
table lamp,
wall lamp or
ceiling lamp in a mid-century style can provide in any setting.

Luxury is key in our mid-century lamps
At Empel Collections, we are inspired by the best designers of the era, but we are also pig-headed enough to give the lamps in our Mid-century Collection that special Empel twist. We love the sleek simplicity of the designs that came out of, especially, the US during the Forties, Fifties and Sixties. But we seek to add that little ‘something’, that ‘je ne sais quoi’ that makes our designs unique. It might be a luxurious silver-leafed finish, or a rock crystal finial, or a silk cylinder shade. Our take on the mid-century modern style takes it away from the fairly stark Scandinavian aura of Hans Wegner, into the three-martini lunch (yippee!), chain-smoking (yuk!), debonair elegance that was Don Draper. Remember? Mad Men? We were glued to our sets like a 9-year old watching the moon landing. Never mind the intrigue of the plot, how about those set designs?!
Old meets new
Our starting point may be an actual
vintage mid-century piece, which we give an Empel Collections make-over and upgrade. We are not purists: we love patina, but we do not love ugly signs of wear and tear. A mid-century lamp that leaves our workshop has to ooze gorgeousness, not ‘found in a skip’-ness. But actually, most of our mid-century designs are designs we have come up with ourselves, inspired by—but not copying—those great designs of yesteryear. Whereas the vintage pieces are by definition unique items, our own designs can be made to measure. That leaves room for you to have us tweak the designs of our mid-century lamps to your very own specifications.
